Many companies use schematics created in Microsoft Visio® to represent the work processes within a project in an easily understood graphical summary. Creating these diagrams and updating them is time consuming.
Emerald developed a ball and stick diagram creator tool using P6 data as the starting source with the final graphic being created in Microsoft Visio® automatically. The tool takes the latest schedule information from P6 and summarizes the data based on coding parameters to output a one page summary of the project. Our client saved significant engineering time by automating this process since it was taking roughly 5 hours to manually build these diagrams and then 20 hours per update cycle to refresh them. With over 40 projects using this reporting method a lot of labour hours were saved and accuracy was improved significantly since the tool only took 5 minutes per update cycle to output the visual report.
