One of the fundamental building blocks for project controls is the List of Project Codes. When analyzing a project environment, be it one large complex project or multiple smaller projects, it is necessary to ‘rollup’ and ‘slice and dice’ the data in many ways. This process is done based on Project Codes. In the world of complex projects, the ability to automatically rollup project codes to be used in portfolio’s is essential for true streamlining of the program management system.
Emerald has developed a tool that rolls up data to give the status of a project code based on activities in the underlying projects. This allows portfolio’s to be automatically rolled up based on the activity happening on the projects. The manual effort was recently estimated to be 10 hours per week for one of our clients that was reduced to 0 because it was automatically set based on the updates that were already taking place from the individuals responsible.
