Adequate and efficient scheduling of a plant shutdown / turnaround for maintenance is crucial for the success of each plant’s operations. A large turnaround can include millions of man hours and hundreds of resources. Resource planning is challenging and if not done efficiently, can cause over-allocation on some shifts while some tasks are understaffed. This can lead into delays and increases cost of the turnaround.
Solution
The Project Schedule Optimization Package (PSOP®) is a software add-on for the Primavera scheduling application. PSOP® works seamlessly in the background of Primavera to provide unprecedented schedule optimizations, minimizing the total project duration while maintaining all the constraints and dependencies defined by the scheduler. The advanced algorithms used in the optimization process can only be found in PSOP®.

Resource optimized schedule is shorter and can thus create substantial savings as the plant is returned to full production several days earlier than without resource optimization. Emerald is currently implementing PSOP® for a chemical plant shutdown, and has also successfully installed PSOP® for one of the major retail suppliers of agricultural products and services in North and South America.
