P6 Resource User-Defined Period Closeout

Many of Emerald’s clients have identified common issues related to the period close out process in Primavera. The period close out process only snapshots actual units and actual dollars. Our clients needed the ability to capture additional period based information at the resource assignment level. For example, work has often started and progressed on extra work that has not been officially approved and is not in the schedule. Another example occurs where material or services have been delivered to the site but not yet invoiced. For these situations and many others, it is necessary to capture this information and incorporate it into the period close out report.

Emerald developed a process that snapshots user defined fields at the resource assignment level into tables that can be viewed through the P6-Reporter tool. These tables can be presented in a standalone environment or through MyPrimavera as a custom portlet (i.e. screen window). This way the user gets the extra period based information that is required and is not currently captured in P6.

This opens up all sorts of interesting possibilities for our clients to build additional functionality into their existing Primavera database. Our typical client comments and reactions include “Wow now we can do all these other things in the application that will help us”
